SUMMARY:Choir League All Voices Bright!
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us this winter as we raise our voices in a program that celebrates the beauty of human connection through music from around the world. Anchoring the concert are selected excerpts from Benjamin Britten’s beloved Ceremony of Carols — a shimmering masterpiece originally for treble voices and harp that captures both mystery and joy. \nAlongside Britten’s work\, we’ll sing a festive setting of the Sephardic folksong “Mi Zeh Y’Meleil\,” the lively Renaissance villancico “Riu\, Riu\, Chiu\,” and a powerful South African setting of Handel’s “And the Glory of the Lord” by our dear friend Bongani Magatyana. \nTogether\, these pieces weave a rich tapestry of languages\, rhythms\, and traditions — reminding us that in every culture and every season\, music brings people closer. This program is about unity\, humanity\, and the joy of singing together. \n🎶 Please note: While Choir League doesn’t have any religious affiliation\, songs that originated in a spiritual tradition may appear in our holiday programming.

SUMMARY:Colorado Bach Ensemble Presents St. Matthew Passion\, BWV 244
DESCRIPTION:Composed in 1727\, Matthäus-Passion (“St. Matthew Passion”)\, BWV 244\, stands as one of the greatest achievements in Western classical music. Performed several times in Bach’s lifetime\, it has endured as a testament to Bach’s compositional genius. This sacred oratorio\, written for soloists\, double choir\, and double orchestra\, vividly depicts the Passion of Christ according to the Gospel of Matthew.  Six soloists tell the story: a tenor singing the role of the Evangelist\, a bass depicting the role of Jesus\, and 4 additional soloists singing the solo arias.  A small ripieno chorus sings the chorale melody in the first and the last movement of the first half of the piece. \nIts intricate structure and profound emotional depth convey the narrative with secco recitative\, fluid obbligato\, and crisp contrapuntal harmonies both between the chorus and orchestra\, and between each double ensemble. Renowned for its sublime beauty\, spiritual intensity\, and sophisticated use of musical techniques\, the work reflects Bach’s deep faith and unmatched compositional genius. \nFeaturing Dann Coakwell as the Evangelist\, Andrew Garland as Jesus\, and all other soloists will sing the arias.
