Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen\, was canceled just one day before its ill-fated date in March 2020. We look forward to bringing both selections to the stage with singers young and old for a truly transformative experience. \nTickets on sale on April 3\, 2023 \nwww.coloradorepertorysingers.org \n

SUMMARY:Denver Pops Orchestra: On Music's Wings
DESCRIPTION:Our final concert of the season will be an event you won’t soon forget. We are joining with the talented musicians of the Colorado Choir\, directed by Kelly Parmenter\, and talented young musicians from three area middle school choirs in a truly amazing musical extravaganza. The prolific American composer\, Peter Boyer\, created a magnificent piece to celebrate music that includes orchestra\, adult choir\, youth choir and soloists that demonstrates the power of music and it’s intrinsic value as it inspires us in spite of our challenges. Get your tickets early for this one and bring your friends; it will be a grand finale to a wonderful season of great music from the Denver Pops. \nThe Denver Pops Orchestra is a community-based nonprofit organization that has been serving up great music in metro Denver for over 40 years. The 65+ members who volunteer their time and talents represent a variety of ages and vocations. The ensemble aims to serve Denver area communities through performances of familiar music\, including a wide range of music from light classical and symphonic to operatic movements\, Broadway and movie tunes to dance band and pops compositions. The Denver Pops perform regularly from August through May\, offering a variety of concerts\, formal dances\, benefits\, and special events.

SUMMARY:Denver Philharmonic Orchestra: Wild Wild West
DESCRIPTION:April 8\, we welcome back Principal Guest Conductor Mark Mast to the Queen City of the Plains with a hearty howdy! Two nuggets kick off the evening — Variations on a Cowboy Tune by colorful Coloradan Cecil Effinger\, trailed by Tom Taylor’s bluegrass lark\, Big Basin Breakdown. We ride off into the sunset with Johannes Brahms’ first symphony — a work that took two decades to wrangle but left the composer ridin’ high in the saddle.

SUMMARY:Ensemble Charité presents "Das Lied von der Erde"
DESCRIPTION:Ensemble Charité will be offering Arnold Schoenberg’s chamber version of Gustav Mahler’s late masterpiece Das Lied von der Erde\, conducted by Michelle DeYoung\, and featuring Colorado’s own star tenor\, Matthew Plenk and mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung. \nTicket proceeds will benefit NEW GENESIS \n\n\n\nMichelle DeYoung\, Artistic and Executive Director \n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Ensemble Charité is a not-for-profit organization with both charitable and musical ambitions. SUMMARY:Wild Beautiful Orchestra presents Into the Spotlight: Composers of Color
DESCRIPTION:Wild Beautiful Orchestra presents Into the Spotlight: Composers of Color \nSaturday\, March 11 from 7:30-9:00pm \nTickets $25 general admission\, $10 students (under 25) on Eventbrite \nJoin us for a deep dive into the music of three exceptional composers!  Silvestre Revueltas was arguably Mexico’s greatest composer\, known for his musical humor and extraordinarily vivid sound-painting (bringing the sounds of the jungle to the concert stage!)  Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji was a reclusive genius of Parsi/English heritage who developed a unique blend of Impressionist and exotic influences through the virtuosic language of Late Romanticism.  Tania Léon is a composer from Cuba who recently received the Kennedy Center Honors; always writing music which bristles with energy\, she collaborates with dance troupes and conducts orchestras across the globe from Harlem to Bangkok. \nEach composer is represented by vocal works (accompanied by piano or chamber orchestra) and instrumental quintets.  The vocal works set poetry about race relations in Mexico\, forbidden love between men in the Renaissance\, an invocation to a swamp goddess\, the secret life of cats\, and…the love songs of frogs??  The instrumental pieces express the wildly different personalities of their creators: Revueltas makes fun of modern music\, Sorabji evokes the ornate complexity of Persian tapestries\, and Léon takes us on an exuberant ride. \nThe Wild Beautiful Orchestra is a musical collective established in 2019 to perform the most exciting music from diverse traditions.  This concert features an 18-person chamber orchestra of freelance professionals conducted by Taylor Gonzales with four guest vocalists: Andrew Garland (CU-Boulder)\, Daniela Guzmán-Égüez (Regis Unviersity)\, Zoë Spangler and Natacha Cóndor Guevara.  For more information\, please visit wildbeautifulorchestra.org.

SUMMARY:Denver Philharmonic Orchestra: Hidden Treasure
DESCRIPTION:Conductors from across the seven seas captain each movement of three musical masterpieces at our annual maestro relay. First up\, it’s the daring drama of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Egmont Overture! Next\, a hidden gem that has recently been given more chance to shine — Florence Price’s first violin concerto featuring DPO Associate Concertmaster Anna Katherine Barnett-Hart. The adventure ends with the brilliant Bohemian Symphony No. 8 by Antonín Dvořák. \nWhich conductor will unearth the treasure and win the prize? Come see and hear the cache of talent from the DPO International Conducting Workshop on March 4. \nWe’re opening our doors early at 5:45 pm for a special preconcert string ensemble performance of three rich contemporary and classical works. As at the main concert\, each movement of the piece will be conducted by a different conductor taking part in our workshop.

SUMMARY:Denver Philharmonic Orchestra: Out of the Blue
DESCRIPTION:Influenced by his own sunny poem\, George Whitefield Chadwick’s symphonic sketch “Jubilee” glitters as the first work on the November 12 program. Composer William Grant Still found his inspiration for the bluesy Afro-American Symphony in gospel\, jazz and the words of the illustrious Black poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. Even Beethoven has left his umbrella at home exchanging his signature gloom for azure skies with the tender and beautiful “Emperor” piano concerto performed with crystal clarity by Canadian pianist Sheng Cai. Gary Lewis and Yoona Jeong guest conduct Out of the Blue. \n\nGeorge Whitefield Chadwick\nSymphonic Sketches – Jubilee \nWilliam Grant Still\nAfro-American Symphony \nLudwig van Beethoven\nPiano Concerto No. 5 “Emperor”

SUMMARY:Denver Philharmonic Orchestra: Blinded by the Light
DESCRIPTION:A Tchaikovsky Triumph\nOur 75th season dawns with the Colorado premiere of Lawrence Golan’s Fantasia for Orchestra\, a brooding-turned-bright composition originally written for violin that finds new life in the DPO Music Director’s quarantine re-orchestration. Lebanese musician Rony Barrak dazzles on the darbouka\, or goblet drum\, in his dramatic Middle Eastern composition\, Beirut Sensations. The premiere concludes with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s victory over self-doubt when inspiration finally struck like a bolt of lightning\, culminating in his lustrous Symphony No. 5.
