SUMMARY:Joscho Stephan Trio
DESCRIPTION:Hailed as one of the most exciting ensembles in the acoustic guitar scene today\, the Joscho Stephan Trio is breathing fresh life into the classic gypsy swing tradition pioneered by Django Reinhardt. Led by the masterful playing of Joscho Stephan and joined by Sven Jungbeck (guitar) and Volker Kamp (double bass)\, their live performances reveal a mesmerizing synergy and technical brilliance that captivate audiences worldwide. \nWith a YouTube channel amassing nearly 40 million views\, Joscho has built a global following. He has collaborated with guitar legends including Tommy Emmanuel\, Stochelo Rosenberg\, and Biréli Lagrène\, and was handpicked as the only European guitarist at the exclusive George Benson Camp. \nAt the heart of the trio’s success is their fearless musical innovation. While they reverently rework timeless jazz standards\, they also infuse their own compositions with influences spanning Latin\, classical\, pop\, and rock—making every set a dynamic feast for the ears.

SUMMARY:Derek Gripper + Alam Khan
DESCRIPTION:In a rare and remarkable collaboration\, Alam Khan—son of the legendary Ali Akbar Khan—joins forces with one of South Africa’s most innovative guitarists\, Derek Gripper. The two first met in 2025 over a cup of tea in Alam’s teaching room\, a meeting that it led to a spontaneous trio recording with South African guitarist Guy Buttery. Alam went on to join Derek in concerts with his long-time collaborator\, the great Malian kora virtuoso Ballaké Sissoko\, and then in an intimate duo recording session in the hills of Berkeley. \nIn their duo work\, Alam and Derek focus on their respective immersions in deep classical traditions: Alam Khan brings a long apprenticeship under his father\, mastering the infinite art of raga improvisation within the Indian classical tradition. Derek Gripper\, originally trained in European classical and early string music\, has spent years translating the complex language of the West African kora to the guitar. Through this long study of the 21-string harp\, he developed a unique language of cyclical improvisation\, breaking out of the bounds of composed music and using the polyrhythmic possibilities of classical guitar technique to re-imagine the beginnings of sound in string music\, from harps and bows of the African continent. \nTogether\, Alam and Derek explore the heights of spontaneous creation\, re-imagining great African songs and Indian melodies through the art of collective improvisation. \nDoors at 7pm\, Concert at 7:30pm. \nwww.derekgripper.com | www.alamkhan.com

SUMMARY:Denver Philharmonic Orchestra: Undivided
DESCRIPTION:A Celebration 250 Years in the Making\nOur 2026–27 season opens with a program that feels like America at its most alive: bold\, diverse\, and unmistakably united. Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait anchors the evening with the words of Abraham Lincoln\, spoken live over a full orchestra\, in a setting as stirring today as it was when Copland wrote it. Music by some of the most vital compositional voices of our time\, woven together by a shared belief in what we can build when we build together. \nThis is also a historic Colorado evening: the world premiere of John Heins’ Garden of the Gods marks both the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 150th anniversary of Colorado statehood: a reminder that our shared story is still being written.

SUMMARY:Reflections: John Carroll Kirby
DESCRIPTION:JOHN CARROLL KIRBY is an artist based in Los Angeles. Though Kirby’s background is steeped in jazz\, his signature sound blends genres and styles. An in-demand collaborator for artists ranging from superstars Solange and Frank Ocean to beloved indie musicians Connan Mockasin and Yves Tumor\, Kirby has lately focused on his own prolific solo output\, releasing five LPs on Stones Throw Records in a little over two years. \nMy Garden (2020)\, a blend of jazz and exotica\, was praised by Pitchfork\, The Fader\, LA Times\, Q\, and Mojo. The same year\, Kirby released Conflict\, a calming piano album in response to the year’s chaos. Kirby’s 2021 jazz-fusion release Septet marked a return to ensemble playing\, while Dance Ancestral (2022) with additional production from Canadian artist Yu Su\, saw him take a more electronic-forward approach. In March 2023\, Stones Throw released Sundown\, Kirby’s album-length collaboration with R&B singer Eddie Chacon.
