SUMMARY:Colorado Repertory Singers: Jubilate Deo
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Educational Masterwork Collaboration returns having reached hundreds of student musicians across the Denver metro and Northern Colorado areas over the past five years. This is some of the most important work CRS undertakes\, connecting with student musicians and supporting music educators. This season we are thrilled to bring to life Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo. \nDan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo brings to life the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100 text\, “O be joyful in the Lord\, all ye lands\,” by setting it in seven different languages and drawing from a wide spectrum of musical influences. Each movement combines some characteristics of its language-group’s musical culture with the composer’s own musical language. Movements include liturgical Latin\, intertwined Hebrew and Arabic\, Mandarin Chinese\, Zulu\, Spanish\, Song of the Earth (untexted)\, and a closing movement combining several of these languages with English. The result is a stunning global celebration of joy\, as all the earth sings as one\, “omnis terra\, jubilate!”  www.danforrest.com

SUMMARY:Zikr Dance Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Zikr – the remembrance of God “Remember” is too pale a word for zikr\, which has now acquired a large number of associations in our religious literature\, especially Sufi literature. In its verbal signification it implies: to remember\, to praise by frequently mentioning; to rehearse; to celebrate or commemorate; to make much of; to cherish the memory of as a precious possession. In Sufi devotions\, zikr represents both a solemn ritual and a spiritual state of mind or heart\, in which the devotee seeks to realize the presence of God. Thus there is zikr of the mind and zikr of the heart. For some the one may lead to the other\, but in many cases the two may be simultaneous. There is also a subtler distinction\, between the zikr that is open\, and the zikr that is secret\, corresponding to the two doors of the heart\, that of the flesh and that of the spirit. \nThe Zikr Dance Ensemble offers a spectrum of works that include transcendent dance rituals from many different ancient world cultures throughout history along with original and contemporary dance/theatre realizations. The company’s purpose is to offer performance experiences of spiritual atonement for both participants and audiences alike which are both theatrically engaging and educational and that also connect to numerous organizations dedicated to both promoting spiritual tolerance and multi-cultural understanding for the entire community. \nThe company’s singular artistic focus makes it totally unique among professional dance companies in the United States\, and its relatively small size and flexibility and adaptability regarding performing spaces makes it an ideal fit for not only major presenters\, but also for college dance departments\, museums\, churches and other smaller or unusual venues.\n\nThe dances in performance are supplemented by stunning slide projections and visual effects\, completing a multi-media experience that audiences and presenters alike have found to be both visually and artistically stimulating as well as intellectually captivating.

SUMMARY:Ars Nova Singers: Rebirth
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Renaissance \nJoin us in February as we present a rare opportunity to hear one of the great Renaissance works in 40 parts: Thomas Tallis’ monumental masterpiece\, Spem in alium. With the delicacy and strength of a soaring cathedral vault\, this masterwork of vocal polyphony weaves beautiful melodies together\, balancing form and expression in a sparkling demonstration of musical genius. Tallis pushed the boundaries of convention by bringing new life to old techniques\, creating a unique musical experience that transcends time. A captivating interplay of voices emerges from different parts of the room\, creating an original “surround sound” experience. \nThe transformative journey of this program moves beyond the Renaissance and culminates in the majestic splendor of Rheinberger’s Mass in E-flat major for double chorus. \n“Rebirth” is a celebration of exceptional vocal artistry\, historical significance\, and profound musical exploration—a testament to the timeless beauty and innovative spirit that define Ars Nova Singers’ art. \n“Very fine…a richly reverberant world of sound…” – The Choral Review \n“[Ars Nova Singers]…enveloped the audience in a wash of celestial sounds.” – The Denver Post \n

SUMMARY:Central City Opera presents: AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS
DESCRIPTION:A holiday event for audiences of all ages. Performed with a full orchestra.\nThe story of a magic star\, a shepherd boy\, and how unselfish love can work miracles.\nAmahl and the Night Visitors is a family-friendly opera and has been enduringly popular since its premier in 1951. Commissioned by NBC as the first opera written for television\, Amahl and the Night Visitors debuted on December 24\, 1951 becoming the first network television Christmas special to become an annual tradition. Composer Gian Carlo Menotti drew inspiration for the opera from Hieronymus Bosch’s The Adoration of the Magi\, which hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, and from his childhood in Italy where gifts were brought at Christmas by the Three Kings instead of Santa Claus. \nAmahl and the Night Visitors tells the story of Amahl\, a shepherd boy who has a propensity to tell tall tales\, and his mother. Amahl’s most recent story is about a star with a tail that moves across the sky like a chariot on fire. When three splendid strangers knock on the door and ask to rest in their tiny home\, Amahl is thrilled and fascinated. When the visitors describe the miraculous child they are seeking\, both Amahl and his mother are moved to give reverence to the child as well. Their humble faith conjures a miracle.

SUMMARY:Denver Gay Men's Chorus presents Winter Soulstice
DESCRIPTION:Like the Winter Solstice\, hinting at the light to come and the birth of new opportunities\, Winter Soulstice celebrates the holiday season and DGMC’s new Artistic Director\, Johnny Nichols\, Jr.\, with music that honors the earth\, celebrates diversity\, and dances to the festive rhythm of soul music. \nThe Denver Gay Men’s Chorus has been an LGBTQ catalyst for change through musical excellence since its founding in 1982. With more than 300 concerts during its 42-year history\, this 140-member ensemble is one of the premier gay performing arts organizations in the Rocky Mountain Region. Through its diverse and socially charged programming\, DGMC’s reimagined choir concerts entertain\, educate\, inspire\, and empower audiences to foster acceptance and tolerance throughout the greater Denver area and along Colorado’s Front Range communities. \nDGMC has performed in Denver and around the U.S. in acclaimed concert halls\, including Boettcher Concert Hall\, the Ellie Caulkins Opera House\, Gates Hall\, the Paramount Theatre\, the Red Rocks Amphitheater\, and Carnegie Hall. Additionally\, the chorus has delivered groundbreaking performances at Coors Field\, in the U.S. Air Force Academy Chapel\, and on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol as part of inaugural festivities for Governor Jared Polis. DGMC has traveled to 12 states\, the District of Columbia\, and Canada and has made joint appearances with several gay men’s choruses in major U.S. cities \nIn 2023\, DGMC was among the first GALA choruses to present Disney PRIDE\, a musical celebration of LGBTQ life\, love\, and perseverance. \nIn addition\, they have premiered new-commissioned choral works from acclaimed composers such as Andrew Lippa\, Nathan Hall\, Alan Shorter\, James Deignan\, and Craig Carnahan. DGMC has helped raise awareness of homelessness and housing insecurity issues\, pioneered an educational outreach program to nurture safe learning environments\, and continues to support anti-bullying efforts in Colorado schools. \nDuring its 40th anniversary season\, DGMC collaborated with Cleo Parker Robinson Dance\, a first for both organizations. Aurora’s Rangeview High School Choir joined DGMC for the Colorado premiere of “The Seven Last Words of the Unarmed\,” a powerful multi-movement piece inspired by the last words of seven unarmed black men.   \nDGMC’s future is full of endless possibilities as its mission statement\, “building community through music\,” drives its imaginative motivation for success! \n
