SUMMARY:Arvada West High School Spring Choir Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Arvada West Choral Music program has established itself as having one the premiere programs in the United States with an invitation to perform at the 2017 National ACDA Conference in Minneapolis. Numerous choirs have also been selected to perform at CMEA conferences in the past several years (the top state honor for high school ensembles) – including 10 appearances since 2009. The choirs also consistently receive straight “Superior” ratings at festivals and competitions.  \nAWest choirs have performed in numerous cities and prestigious venues across the United States\, including Los Angeles\, New York City (Carnegie Hall)\, Washington\, D.C. (Kennedy Center)\, and Chicago (Orchestra Hall) – and have traveled internationally\, performing High Mass at the Basilicas of St. Peter’s Rome and St. Mark’s Venice.

The concept is to perform concerts\, most of which I will conduct\, of different size ensembles depending on the repertoire\, including full chamber orchestra\, string quartets\, or string chamber orchestras. There will be a mix of professional leadership\, and pre-professionals gaining experience. The orchestra and overhead of the performances will be funded by donations. The concerts will take place in the cities of the chosen charity\, and will optimize for using local musicians. 100% of the ticket proceeds will go to the charity. Eventually\, we would like to have concerts all over the world\, raising money for a variety of charitable organizations.” \n\n\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Coming Home to Ourselves: Traversing the Pathways of Surrender and Rebellion \nOur development as human beings is not like climbing a staircase\, each step\, a step up into a fuller sense of being. It’s more like building a little one bedroom home\, tearing most of it down and building a two bedroom two bath\, and tearing most of that down to build a three bedroom with two baths and a hot tub\, and so on. The building up and the tearing down are necessary. We transcend who we once were\, and if we do it well\, we include the good parts of the previous “home” we call our self. The tools of our tearing down and building up are surrender and rebellion. But what kind of surrender and rebellion\, and to what we surrender and rebel against\, determines who we become. Together we will explore how we all fall apart\, and how we fall together\, so we might truly be at home. \nThe cost for participants is $30. Lunch is included. DESCRIPTION:Wild Beautiful Orchestra presents Into the Spotlight: Composers of Color \nSaturday\, March 11 from 7:30-9:00pm \nTickets $25 general admission\, $10 students (under 25) on Eventbrite \nJoin us for a deep dive into the music of three exceptional composers!  Silvestre Revueltas was arguably Mexico’s greatest composer\, known for his musical humor and extraordinarily vivid sound-painting (bringing the sounds of the jungle to the concert stage!)  Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji was a reclusive genius of Parsi/English heritage who developed a unique blend of Impressionist and exotic influences through the virtuosic language of Late Romanticism.  Tania Léon is a composer from Cuba who recently received the Kennedy Center Honors; always writing music which bristles with energy\, she collaborates with dance troupes and conducts orchestras across the globe from Harlem to Bangkok. \nEach composer is represented by vocal works (accompanied by piano or chamber orchestra) and instrumental quintets.  The vocal works set poetry about race relations in Mexico\, forbidden love between men in the Renaissance\, an invocation to a swamp goddess\, the secret life of cats\, and…the love songs of frogs??  The instrumental pieces express the wildly different personalities of their creators: Revueltas makes fun of modern music\, Sorabji evokes the ornate complexity of Persian tapestries\, and Léon takes us on an exuberant ride. \nThe Wild Beautiful Orchestra is a musical collective established in 2019 to perform the most exciting music from diverse traditions.  This concert features an 18-person chamber orchestra of freelance professionals conducted by Taylor Gonzales with four guest vocalists: Andrew Garland (CU-Boulder)\, Daniela Guzmán-Égüez (Regis Unviersity)\, Zoë Spangler and Natacha Cóndor Guevara.  For more information\, please visit wildbeautifulorchestra.org.

Come see and hear the cache of talent from the DPO International Conducting Workshop on March 4. \nWe’re opening our doors early at 5:45 pm for a special preconcert string ensemble performance of three rich contemporary and classical works. As at the main concert\, each movement of the piece will be conducted by a different conductor taking part in our workshop.

SUMMARY:Women's Retreat with Tim Mooney
DESCRIPTION:Coming Home to Ourselves: Traversing the Pathways of Surrender and Rebellion \nOur development as human beings is not like climbing a staircase\, each step\, a step up into a fuller sense of being. It’s more like building a little one bedroom home\, tearing most of it down and building a two bedroom two bath\, and tearing most of that down to build a three bedroom with two baths and a hot tub\, and so on. The building up and the tearing down are necessary. We transcend who we once were\, and if we do it well\, we include the good parts of the previous “home” we call our self. The tools of our tearing down and building up are surrender and rebellion. But what kind of surrender and rebellion\, and to what we surrender and rebel against\, determines who we become. Together we will explore how we all fall apart\, and how we fall together\, so we might truly be at home. \nThe cost for participants is $30. Lunch is included. Scholarships are available upon request.\n\nTim Mooney\, former Parish Associate at Central\, now living the dream of being an artist\, a musician\, and a vagabond when he’s not worrying about his mother still driving at 93 years of age\, living alone\, and deciphering her swings between joyful independent living\, and anxious longing for more community and fewer responsibilities for house and yard.
