Our New Pastor: Dorothy Piatt-Esguerra

On February 23rd, 2025, the PNC presented Rev. Dorothy Piatt-Esguerra to the congregation for approval as Central’s new pastor. Dorothy joined in the service and gave a sermon. Following the service, members voted, and overwhelmingly approved Dorothy as our new pastor. Pastor Dorothy will start on May 27th, 2025. You can read her biography below –

Since 2019, Dorothy Piatt-Esguerra has served as Associate Pastor for University and Social Justice Mission with Westminster Presbyterian Church and UKirk at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. She has enjoyed preaching, teaching, and pastoral care with people of all ages while revitalizing college and young adult ministries and expanding the congregation’s community partnerships. She also served as Acting Co-Head of Staff during transition and is currently on the board for UKirk National Collegiate Ministries.

After a first career as a managing editor, Dorothy earned an M.Div. from Vanderbilt Divinity School while serving as pastoral intern at Second Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN. She began ordained ministry as a Resident Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor, MI. Having served churches of various sizes, Dorothy tends relationships with a pastoral heart and systems with holistic vision.

Amid current challenges, Dorothy believes that God is doing transformative ministry through communities shaped by the gospel. She finds energy in building intergenerational communities, exploring questions of faith that inspire us to action, and honoring tradition while discovering creative ways for the church to embrace its mission in the world. The ways that Central has lived out its calling in the heart of the city give her hope for the opportunities ahead.

Always drawn to the mountains, Dorothy looks forward to exploring Colorado with her wife Catalina (currently Associate Dean of Organizational Strategy and Effectiveness for UVA Library), twin sons Mateo and Gabriel, and dog Sophie. Her other loves are connecting with family and friends, hiking, playing drums, reading, and traveling.
