Central leader Ron LaRocque’s sermon, a Biblical story of Jesus healing a man “with demons,” offers opportunity to consider how the marginalization of LGBTQ+ persons can result in oppressive isolation and exacerbate their experience of other social ills. “Don’t say gay” laws and anti-Trans legislation, for example, can isolate individuals by making them invisible and telling them they’re “wrong,” as well as creating barriers to health care access, educational opportunities, and deeply rooted community.
What of Jesus’ example removes these barriers to full inclusion? A message of liberation and hope.
